“[Putting the Hijab] was the moment that the final nail was hammered into the coffin of my childhood.” I had the honor and privilege of hosting Yasmine Mohammed on The Lonely Podcast. Yasmine is a public speaker, a human rights activist, and the author of Unveiled: How Western Liberals Empower Radical Islam. Her book details the terrifying yet inspirational story of growing up in a fundamentalist Muslim family in Canada, forcefully marrying a member of Al Qaida, and how she eventually broke free. Yasmine is also the founder and President of Free Hearts Free Minds, a non-profit that connects women from all over the world who suffer under the boot of radical Islam and provides support to those whose voices cannot be heard. She is also a founding member of The Clarity Coalition, which is composed of Muslims, ex-Muslims, academics, and scholars who are advocating for peace, democracy, liberty, and secular governance. On her podcast, the Forgotten Feminists, she brings forth the stories of inspirational women from restrictive religious backgrounds who have fought and have overcome. Yasmine provides a first-hand testimony to the reality of growing up in a fundamentalist Muslim family and explains how, in the name of tolerance and diversity, the West caves into the hands of religious extremists.
